NEMA Premium® Motors and Adjustable Speed Drives Save Energy

Motor driven systems consume 25% of all electricity in the US and over 60% within industry. According to US Department of Energy studies, NEMA Premium® efficient motors and adjustable speed drives (ASD) can save energy in industrial and commercial installations. Possible savings range from 33 to 60 percent. These savings are available from simple retrofit of the motors and easy addition of the ASD to control the motor speed on centrifugal pumps or fans. Instead of controlling flow with a valve or damper, the motor speed is adjusted, which also reduces electric use as the flow is reduced.
